After traveling for one month around Hawaii (Oʻahu, Maui, Big Island), we (Anja and Stevo) landed in Los Angeles on May 29th 2011. Our first mission was to find a vehicle for our road trip through the states. We decided a small campervan would be best; however, we found it quite difficult to find what we were looking for online. We found big motor homes and some small campervans, but nothing that satisfied us. We stumbled upon the website www.escapecampervans.com, and the first impression was brilliant, offering all we were looking for with a really cool sprayed motive on the outside. The campervan came with professional/clean camping equipment at a good value.
Our travel in the direction of San Diego could start after a van instruction. In San Diego we looked around the city and went for one day to the big zoo. From there we drove to the Universal Studios, which was ingenious and everyone who wants to visit Los Angeles has to go there. Our next stop was Las Vegas, which was amazing. Every hotel/ casino tries to be the most unique and offering tourists the best experience through a mix of fine dining options, shows, and luxury pools.
After some days of fun we drove to some national parks. First was the Grand Canyon, which is a must for everyone. We hiked to the top of the mountain at Zion National Park. Antelope Canyon provided great photo opps with brilliant colors and lights encircling the canyon. We enjoyed a horseback ride through the prairie in the Monument Valley. The beautiful sandstone arches were stunning at Arches National. We visited Capital Reef National Park and Bryce Canyon, with its impressive reddish sandstone towers.
From there we drove nearly 700 Miles north-west to San Francisco. On the way we made a stop in the Yosemite National Park, which looks a little bit like Switzerland. Than we took the Highway 1 from San Francisco back to Los Angeles and stopped wherever it looked nice. On the last day in LA we visited Disneyland, which is also must to do for every visitor.
During the entire road trip we enjoyed the conveniences offered from our van. The campervan offered us much flexibility in our travels and the provided camping gear was a great option for the nights we wanted to camp outdoors. In a few easy steps we could reassemble the inside of the van making a comfortable bed. It was nice to be able to live inside the van and enjoy our dinner or just read a book. Because the Van is so small, we always had to pay less than the big RVs.
We enjoyed our time in the campervan so much that we would like to take it back to Switzerland. Thank you Escape Rentals for a great ride!
